BUILD BACK BETTER.
If it's not already, we'd like to make the word RESILIENCE top of mind, and a priority as people begin to rebuild homes and communities impacted by floods and other natural disasters. Resilience is the new sustainability, and along with Universal Design, should be the priority of every planner, builder, and home owner. It doesn't have to be expensive.
Create West Virginia is pulling its network together and making information, consulting services and technical assistance available so that together we can build resilient, sustainable, beautiful homes and communities that work for residents and visitors. Resilient, universally designed homes and communities are key to placemaking for innovation, and lowering lifetime costs of building and infrastructure maintenence.
For years, people around the world thought that universally-designed, fabulous homes that offered efficiency, durability, beauty and wide-ranging functionality in well-designed communities were for OTHER people. Until now, many designers, builders, planners, home owners and developers didn't feel the need to think systemically about how they design and build their environments (and those of others). For years we've collectively been able to shrug off growing evidence that our homes, communities, learning places and workspaces are not meeting our diverse needs as we and climate conditions change.
Create West Virginia's Community Innovation Fund and consulting services work together to help build the best communities in the world right here at home. Let us know when you're ready to talk.
