21ST CENTURY LIFE CALLS FOR A FRESH DESIGN APPROACH.
SO WE DESIGNED A DIFFERENT KIND OF CONFERENCE.
WHO'S BEHIND ALL THIS AND WHY
Three expert organizations agreed to hold their annual conferences at the same time, at the same venue, with the shared purpose of making a larger collective impact and supporting rural innovation at all levels. National and international thought and industry leaders contributed their expertise, making this event one of the most diverse opportunities to network, learn, and share critical information useful to people working at all levels for positive change.
Collectively, this event addressed Universal Design, rural housing and development issues; smart-growth; aging-in-place; economic and community development, planning, research and practical application. Because design is fundamental to everything we use to live and learn, this was designed to be a "how-it-all-works-together-for-a-better-life-and-business" conference. While housing, community design and education are core areas of focus, innovation, research, technology, placemaking and consumer interaction were strong themes throughout the conference and the exhibitors' area.
OUR GOAL IS TO TRANSFER CRITICALLY USEFUL INFORMATION TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO NEED IT THE MOST, AND THEIR ADVOCATES, ELECTED, HIRED OR SELF-APPOINTED.
We are committed to liberating the practice of Universal Design - distinct from ADA compliance - extending beyond built environment concerns, and unleashing them into the wilds of many other design-driven disciplines. We want to equip a wide range of people to incorporate universal design and innovation-driven strategies into all aspects of housing, education, community planning, technical and non-technical product/program development and business, to improve how we "live and learn."
That's why we'll continute reaching out to an unprecedented mix of people with wide ranging design, building, education, planning, user experience (UX), and economic/community development and expertise to create a live-action design conference that makes UD and innovation-economy development habit forming, contagious and everyday household terms.
