EVERYBODY'S TALKING ABOUT THE SAME THINGS,
WE JUST AREN'T TALKING TO EACH OTHER. Let's start.
Universal Design (UD) was first described by Ronald L. Mace as “the concept of designing all products and the built environment to be aesthetic and usable to the greatest extent possible by everyone,
regardless of their age, ability, or status in life.”
“Today, the practice of UD has expanded beyond the built environment. UD is widely acknowledged by top educators, designers, technologists, product developers and business leaders as the best approach to create a world that is more user friendly and attractive to everyone.”
-Richard Duncan, RL Mace Universal Design Institute
Design, good or bad, thoughtless or thoughtful, inclusive or exclusive, is directly responsible for every level of comfort or discomfort, usability, durability, or appeal that we get out of everything. It's time we put people at the heart of our problem-solving, so we can solve problems without creating more. Universal Design principles are the key to designing everything we use in life and learning. It's time that everyone understands these principles, and starts working together for better.
DESIGN IN ACTION
United by big vision, decades of collective expertise and a quest to make common sense common, we are reaching out to an unprecedented mix of people with wide ranging design, building, education, planning, user experience (UX), and economic/community development and expertise to create a live-action design conference that makes UD habit forming, contagious and an everyday household term.
